Hampden Academy Band Patrick R. Michaud, Director
Patrick Michaud, a native of Madawaska, ME received his B.M. in Music Education from the University of ME in 1983 where he studied trumpet with Don Stratton. He has been in Music Education for 28 years having taught in MSAD # 21 for 2 years and presently teaches in MSAD # 22 where he directs the Hampden Academy Concert and Symphonic Bands, Jazz Ensemble and also teaches Music Theory, Music Technology, African Drumming in addition to Beginning Band at Weatherbee Elementary School. He has directed and founded the Pat Michaud Big Band, Combo and Main Street R&B Revue. He also serves as a guest conductor and adjudicator for various music festivals throughout the State. He resides in Hampden with his wife Jesse and 3 children, Rachel, Renée and Jacob.

The Old Town High School Music Program over the past fifteen years has been a program of excellence. The Concert Band and Symphonic Band have consistently received superior and one ratings at music festivals held all over New England, Washington D.C. and New York City. In 1997, the Old Town High School Marching Band was selected to march in President Clinton’s Inaugural Parade with a short appearance on CNN. The marching band has also performed parades in Woonsocket, Rhode Island and three performances in the Cherry Blossom Parade in Washington D.C. The Old Town High School Jazz Ensemble has won many awards over the past ten years. It has performed at the Monterey High School Jazz Festval in Monterey, Calfornia and this past year won the Maine State Jazz Festival in division three.

The Brewer High School Jazz Program includes a large ensemble and several jazz combos. Students audition for the large ensemble in both the spring and fall. This group rehearses every-other day from 7:35am to 8:50am as a credited class. There are currently 28 students part of the ensemble and all students are required to play in the concert band as well. The group is exposed to many different styles of jazz ranging from Glen Miller and Count Basie to Gordon Goodwin and Maynard Ferguson. The band has a long reputation as being fun and entertaining.

The Bangor High School Music Department offers students a variety of classes, including Music Theory 1, Advanced Placement Music Theory, Solo & Ensemble, Music Survey, and seven different performing groups: Chorus, Chamber Choir, Jazz Choir, String Orchestra, Fiddlers, Concert Band and Jazz Band. Students in these groups participate in the Maine Music Educators Association’s District 5 Instrumental and Vocal Jazz Festivals, the State Vocal and Instrumental Jazz Festivals, the All State and Jazz All State Music Festivals, and both state and national Large Group festivals.
